Is it Time For a New Roof?

A roof may reach its end of useful life naturally without ever experiencing a roof failure. You may notice that the roof is looking worn and old, and it might be time to replace it. It could lead to bigger problems in the future if you delay replacing your roof. Be aware of the warning signs and give yourself enough time to complete the project.

9 Signs that your roof might need to be replaced

  • Shingle tabs can be cupped or curled at the edges of shingles.
  • Bald spots without granules
  • Cracked shingles
  • Your roof should be at least 20 years of age. While most shingles are made for long-lasting use, there are many factors that can speed up the aging process. Your shingles can be negatively affected if your roof isn’t properly ventilated.
  • It just looks worn and old.
  • New roofs are being installed on neighboring homes. Your roof may be nearing the end of its useful life if it was built in the same time frame.
  • Dark streaks. Dark streaks can be caused by airborne algae. Although it won’t necessarily damage the roof shingles, it can make them look ugly. You can get rid of algae streaks by spraying a 50/50 mixture of bleach and water on your roof. You should use a low-volume garden hose to ensure that you don’t damage the protective granules on your shingles. You must also protect your landscaping from the bleach run-off.
  • Roof surfaces with low sunlight can be a breeding ground for Moss, particularly in humid, cool climates. Moss growth is more than just a cosmetic problem. Moss builds up on roof surfaces and can cause damage to the granules at the top of shingles. You can brush off moss but it won’t stop it from growing back. It is possible to hire a professional roofing contractor.
  • Missing Granules
