John Bartrom owns Jericho Home Improvements, which is the nation’s largest independent kitchen and bath remodeler. It has taken decades of experience to figure out how to build and grow this unique company.
My entire professional career has been spent in the remodeling industry, so I know the industry from an insider’s perspective. Many of the things I saw at that time were disappointing. There were many companies that failed to do even the most basic things right:
Their focus was not on taking care of their customers. Price was more important than quality work. They cut corners to lower costs and didn’t care about how inferior quality affected their customers in the long run. Companies like these forgot – or never learned – that they are only as good as the people they hire and treat.
It was important to me that I be different. Jericho was launched in response to a desire to live the values I held dear and to do things the remodeling industry had never seen before.
The Core Values of Jericho
As a company, Jericho Home Improvements has developed a set of core values that guide ALL of our Team Members every day. Some companies create their mission statements and core values quickly and then forget them just as quickly. But we don’t.
Jericho Home Improvements’ special culture is rooted in these core values. Our success is a result of these core values that distinguish us from the typical mediocrity in the remodeling industry.
1. Make our clients “raving fans”
“Good enough” is not good enough for us. Our clients deserve great service in every aspect. Jericho isn’t just about satisfying them, we’d like them to rave about it.
2. Taking care of Jericho’s family
We are successful because we treat people well. All members of our team are encouraged to speak up and take risks. Excellence is recognized and rewarded, and growth and development are encouraged.
3. The act of giving back
At Jericho, we are committed to giving back to our communities and organisations that align with our core values with our time, financial support, and resources.
4. Making the right decision
Rather than simply doing the right thing, we exercise good judgment by “doing the right thing.” We take responsibility for the outcomes of our decisions.
5. Getting more done with less
Our business is focused and serious. Working hard and investing extra effort are important to us. Operational excellence is one of our core values, and we recognize that there is always room for improvement.
6. Strive for excellence and be passionate
We and the company are driven by passion. Passion, excellence, determination, perseverance, and a sense of urgency are important to us.
7. Studying what we do
Learning never ends. We never stop improving. Personal and professional development are essential. In order to grow individually and as a company, we must constantly stretch and challenge ourselves.
8. Honesty
Our individual and team successes are celebrated and rewarded, but we don’t act arrogantly. Everyone is treated as we would want to be treated. Because we believe in the long run, our character will speak for itself, we carry ourselves with a quiet confidence.
We believed in these principles when we launched, and we still believe in them today. Our company’s success has been a result of upholding these values. The largest independent kitchen and bath remodeling company in the country is Jericho Home Improvements.
My team and our clients have allowed us to go on this incredible journey.
